DistributionSERNEC has no NC specimens, but BONAP shows a record for Brunswick County. Weakley (2018) includes it in NC, as well.

Native to Africa; in N.A. mostly NC to TX.
AbundanceVery rare.
Habitat"Sandy fields, roadsides, other disturbed areas" (Weakley (2018).
PhenologyFlowering July-October.
IdentificationLanceleaf Rattlebox is erect, with 3 leaflets per leaf and which are widest basally. It is told from the similar C. ochroleuca by smaller flowers (8-10 mm long vs. 18-20 mm long).
